Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic Engineering Services team. This role focuses on delivering high-quality electrical engineering solutions for a variety of power system projects, including substation design, grid connection studies, and energy network upgrades. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the technical excellence and timely delivery of our engineering services to clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Power System Analysis: Conduct load flow, fault level, protection coordination, and transient stability studies using industry-standard software such as ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, or PSCAD.
- Design and Engineering: Develop detailed electrical designs for substations, including single-line diagrams, protection schematics, and layout drawings, ensuring compliance with industry standards and client specifications.
- Thermal and Earthing Studies: Perform soil thermal resistivity analysis and earthing design for high-voltage cable installations and substations.
- Survey and Assessment: Participate in site surveys, including Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and topographic assessments, to gather critical data for project design and planning.
- Power Quality and Harmonics: Conduct power quality measurements and harmonic analysis to identify and resolve network issues, ensuring compliance with standards such as G5/5.
- Project Support: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support project planning, implementation, and commissioning activities.
- Technical Documentation: Prepare detailed technical reports, design specifications, and client presentations.
- Compliance and Standards: Ensure all designs and solutions meet regulatory requirements, such as those set by the National Grid/Scottish Power/SSE/NESO, IEC, and BS standards.
Skills and Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience: 3+ years of experience in electrical engineering, preferably within the energy or power systems sector.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with power system analysis tools (e.g., ETAP, PowerFactory) and CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation).
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of grid connection processes, substation design, and power system protection.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze complex technical problems and provide practical, innovative solutions.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact with clients and prepare technical reports.
- Certifications: Chartered Engineer status or working towards it (desirable).
